Taipei

Taipei is the capital of the Republic of China (Taiwan) and a special municipality of Taiwan. Located in the north of the island and initially the home of Austronesian aboriginals, Taipei was officially founded by Chinese settlers in the early 18th century, becoming an important overseas trading port. Taipei saw development of its governmental administration during the period of Japanese occupation, securing the government seat squarely in the city.
