Kaohsiung
By Sonia Su.
With a population of about 2,700,000 residents, Kaohsiung is the second largest city in Taiwan and a major international port. Located in the southern region with a tropical monsoon climate, the city saw its first earnest settlements from the Dutch around the 17th century. Starting in the 1980s, Kaohsiung has been working to reinvent its global image as an Asian metropolis, investing heavily in cultural and artistic development.
