Busan Metropolitan City, located at the southeastern tip of the Korean peninsula, is the second-largest city in South Korea. On a mountainous terrain with a humid subtropical climate, Busan opened its trading port with Japan in 1407 and became the first international port in Korea in 1876. Now, the Port of Busan is the fifth-busiest container port in the world. Busan hosts the annual Busan Film Festival (BIFF), and its Haeundae Beach is a popular destination for locals and tourists.

    As of May 15, 2020, there have been 11,018 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 260 deaths in South Korea. The first confirmed case in the nation dates back to January 20.
